How do I find the winery I’m visiting?
On the Stamp screen, tap Find my winery. Allow foreground location access if you want to use nearby lookup. The app suggests the closest returned winery within approximately half a mile and offers other returned names as alternatives. Check or edit the name before tapping Stamp this visit.
This is a suggestion, not a guarantee you’re at that winery. You can always type a name or reuse a recent one.
Why can’t the app find my winery?
Check that Winery Passport has location permission, your device’s location setting is on, and you have an internet connection. Approximate location is accepted but can make matching less accurate.
The winery may be missing from OpenStreetMap, outside the search area, or the free Overpass service may be unavailable. Enter or correct the name manually and carry on. Manual entry works offline.
Does Winery Passport work offline?
Yes, the journal works offline: manually add visits, browse your passport, and save notes, ratings, and selected photos. Only optional nearby winery lookup needs internet access.
Does the app keep my location?
No location history is kept, and coordinates aren’t saved in your passport or app logs. When you tap Find my winery, coordinates are sent to the OpenStreetMap Overpass service, whose operator also receives your IP address and ordinary request metadata. There is no continuous or background lookup.
Do I need an account or subscription?
No. Winery Passport has no account, subscription, ads, analytics, or cloud-sync system. Your journal lives on your device unless you save and move a ZIP backup.
Where are my photos?
Only photos you select through Android’s photo picker are copied into the app’s private storage. These copies are included in your ZIP backup. They are not sent with nearby searches.
How do I remove a visit?
Open the stamp in your Passport, choose Delete, and confirm. The visit and app-owned photos not shared with another visit are removed. Your original photos outside the app are unaffected.
Can I download the app yet?
Winery Passport is coming to Google Play. A public store link will appear on the app page when the release is available. Screenshots on this site show the upcoming build; older testing builds may look or behave differently.
Backup and restore
Save your passport
- Open Winery Passport and go to Settings.
- Tap Save a backup.
- Choose a destination for the ZIP file in Android’s file picker.
- Keep that file somewhere you trust and can access from your next phone.
The ZIP contains your visits, notes, ratings, and photos. It is not encrypted. If you choose a cloud-storage destination, that provider handles the file under its own terms.
Restore a saved passport
- In Settings, tap Restore a backup.
- Select a Winery Passport ZIP.
- Choose Add visits to keep the current passport and import every visit in the backup, including duplicates, or Replace to replace your current passport with the backup.
Save a backup of your current passport before choosing Replace. Restore does not automatically deduplicate visits or sync devices.
Privacy and deletion
